Physical Pain can be classified into two types: Acute and Chronic.

Acute pain is usually short-lived and is caused by a specific injury or illness.

Chronic pain lasts for more than three months and is often caused by an underlying medical condition, or where a ‘pain alarm’ has not been reset properly. Chronic pain can be mild, moderate, or severe. It can be sharp, dull, aching, or burning, and be localized to a specific area or it can be widespread.

Chronic pain can have a significant impact on a person’s life. It can interfere with work, school, relationships, and leisure activities. Chronic pain can also lead to depression, anxiety, and sleep problems.

Some common treatments for physical pain include:

  • Over-the-counter pain relievers
  • Prescription pain medication
  • Physical therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Massage therapy
  • Yoga
  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy
  • Biofeedback – controlling the body’s responses to pain.

  • Joy: Joy can cause a feeling of lightness, increased energy, and a smile on your face

It is important to be aware of how your emotions are affecting your physical body. If you are experiencing any of the physical symptoms listed above, it is important to talk to your doctor. They can help you determine if there is an underlying medical condition that is causing your symptoms, or if your symptoms are being caused by your emotions.
