Counselling & Positive Psychology


Counselling is a conscious mind, talk-based modality used to treat emotional problems and mental health conditions. One of the key objectives is to help you gain a better understanding of the issues that are troubling you. You can then work out new ways of approaching situations, as well as suggesting new methods to help you cope, like using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) It also helps to create better and more powerful results for any deeper therapy process.

When working with certain techniques and presenting issues, an initial longer appointment is required so that in depth ‘fact-finding’ can be completed in order to get the very best and quickest results from therapy.  This in itself is an invaluable part of the process, and a form of psychotherapy and counselling, with thought-provoking questioning often providing valuable insights about self and the presenting issue. Normally though, I would use counselling to support a deeper therapeutic process, as they enable me to work deeper within the psyche, as opposed to just doing counselling in its own right.

Specific counselling qualifications I hold are;

  • International Advanced Diploma in Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy & Counselling.
  • WSN Counselling/Coaching/Parts Therapy – Practitioner Level 1/2/3

WSN Counselling/Coaching/Parts Therapy is a multi-purpose modality which can help a person identify and understand their core personality type, and then help them to identify ways in which they may be in conflict with this. It can also be that the parts themselves are in conflict – an example of which is the heart versus head scenario.  Very often just the realization of where conflict existed is enough to promote improvement and healing, and then this knowledge can be used to promote further changes.  You can also read more about this in the Psychotherapy section on WSN Parts Therapy.


Positive psychology is a relatively new form of psychology based on the belief that happiness is created by a combination of both emotional and mental factors. It helps people to create a more positive attitude to life and how they show up, and helps to identify happiness in the moment, as opposed to always being in the future or being dependent on someone or something.

Positive psychology is the science and study of life’s positive qualities, such as well-being, and our ability to thrive in our everyday lives.

Unlike traditional psychology modalities which focus more on the causes and symptoms of mental illnesses and emotional disturbances – so a focus on what is negative or perceived “wrong”, positive psychology emphasizes traits, thought patterns, behaviors, and experiences that are forward-looking and positive.

As humans we are hard-wired to pay more attention to negatives experiences – that primitive, instinctive reptilian brain looking out for “danger and “threats’ in order to keep us safe. So, we naturally have that negative bias, and then our conditioning and negative experiences affect our perception of how we can see things and ourselves. Positive psychology aims to bring a person’s attention, expectation, and memory away from a negative and instead focus in the positive in order to achieve balance and healing. It is also about using the power of our minds in a conscious, positive way, as opposed to being on subconscious autopilot, which may be limiting or sabotaging us in some way.
